2008 SUMMER MUSIC EDUCATION PROGRAM INFORMATION
The N.Y.M.P. would like to thank everyone that has registered for the 2007 summer music education program. In the past years we seasoned campers had forgotten that some of the students coming to camp had never been to our camp and possibly have never been away from home before. So here is information to help you get ready for your summer camp experience.
The N.Y.M.P. believes in having more counselors and mentors then is usually expected at many camps. Our program has a 1:7 staff to student ratio or better at night and about a 1:10 ratio during the day. The program also provides two way radios to the counseling staff, head educators, and registered nurse. All students will go to activities and classes in groups and always have at least one of the counseling staff with them.
The organizers of the Northland Youth Music Program are parents and understand the concerns of parents so we plan the program as if our kids were attending because many of our kids either have or are still attending
this program!
There is a minimum of ten staff in the dorms over night including counselors,
head counselors, and registered nurse

Sign in:
will be in the main lobby of the Holden Fine Arts Building 19th and Catlin Ave.
on campus students can register and come on campus at 2 p.m. Auditions will not start until 5:00 p.m.
Auditions and registration for off campus students start at 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
Instrumental students bring a piece of music you would like to play, be ready to play a concert Bb scale.
Voice students will demonstrate voice range.
When does my child sign out of the dorm?
Students are able to clear the dorm before 5 p.m. on Friday or can clear the dorm after the Friday night concert. (the earlier time was changed by campus staff to make sure students are able to get to supper and change for the concert)
Key return On campus students need to return keys to camp staff only when clearing the campus.
. We do mail out the bill to you! Thanks for your help. The room must be cleaned out and please remove all garbage prior to leaving.
Because the staff needs a day off students may not stay over the weekend but may return earlier Sunday morning if prearranged.
What does my child need for their instruments?
Woodwind students should have three (3) new reeds with them in case a reed is broken.
Their instrument should be in good working order. Reeds will be available at the program for students at a cost of $4 per reed.
Choir students need to be awake and ready to sing.
Does my child need a physical to come to camp?
No. If your child has not had the normal childhood immunizations for school or recent physical we would advise you to have the student seen prior to attending the program.
Our main concern is to have the health history form available in case of emergency which includes current medications your child is taking and any known allergies. Students who will be taken medications while at the program will bring their medication in a properly labeled bottle and need to have permission form signed to indicate if the student is to self administer or if the nurse is to administer medication.
What type of clothes should my child bring to camp?
Shorts, tee shirts, and swim trunks or suite and some warmer clothing just in case. Please remember to dress comfortable but not provocative or revealing. We like our students to take pride in their appearance, letting their music show who they are, not by what they wear. What you see is what we like. Lets have a great summer

Concert dress symphonic/choral concerts please have black dress slacks and white button shirt. Nothing skin tight, no short skirts or midriff shirts. Girls can wear long back skirts or conservative black concert dresses to the knee or longer. No plunging neck line or slits up the dress.
Jazz camp concert dress, students should have black slacks and black shirt.
We will sell the N.Y.M.P. black tee shirts and we will let the students wear the tee shirts to the concert. All clothing must be in good condition without rips or holes.
Tee shirt cost will remain $15.00 each and be available at registration. Tee shirt sale is a part of our fundraising for the program.
We try to get all students wearing dark shoes but it never seems to happen. Please no sneakers with holes or in ill repair at the concert. (I have added a full description of concert attire because of issues which have come up over the years)
***Students will be sent back to the dorm to change if this occurs and the parents will be notified if there is a repeated issue.

It is a night not to miss, and of course really great food, cooked by the N.Y.M.P. staff.
Thursday night is our spaghetti feed talent show and whose line is it anyway.
Activities are mandatory for on campus students and optional for commuter students.
FRIDAY NIGHT is the end of the camp week concert. 7 p.m. in the Thorpe Langley Auditorium second floor old main building. The concerts are an amazing demonstration of the student’s talents and teamwork including some small ensemble as well as large ensemble performances which will leave you in admiration of what these students were able to accomplish in such a short time.
The official camp day will start @ 8:00 A.M. and end at 4:00 P.M. If a student needs to leave early we need a note from the parent and a phone call would be appreciated.

Concerts
Thursday Small ensemble concert is held in the afternoon starting at 1:30 p.m.
Friday night Full ensemble concert starts at 7 P.M. Choral and Concert band concerts will be held at the Old Main Building second floor in the Thorpe Langley Auditorium. Jazz week concert will be held at Manion Theater in Holden Fine Arts Building.
Concerts are free with good will donation accepted at the door. We apologize but the auditoriums are not air conditioned.
Camp ID
Each student will receive an ID and lanyard the student will be required to wear the ID during the day and at all camp activities.
SHIRT SALE:
Tee shirts $15, Sweat shirts $20, Hooded sweat shirts $25,
We use this sale as a fundraising event.
This year the shirt sale is even more important to assure needed portions of our budget are met.
CD’s
CD’s will be available from each concert to purchase at a cost of $15 each. You may order reorder additional CD's at any time.

Instrument sign out
We urge students to acquire their large instruments from their school before coming to the camp. We will have some instruments to sign out from the University. Instruments signed out must be returned to designated staff directly after the Friday night concert. Students will have instructions where to drop them off.
Students (parents of students) will be responsible for damage to college instruments a bill from the University will be mailed to you for any damage.
So far we have had no problems or damage let’s keep it going.
